The LOL workshop was inaugurated in 2020 on the Piacenza Campus of the Politecnico di Milano on the initiative of the Master in Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design and the Polipiacenza Association.
In 3 editions LOL has addressed the most current issues of the disciplinary debate. The titles of the 3 editions bear witness to the vision and ambition:
-2020 Po River Regained: the New Piacenza Landscape;
-2021 Post-COVID Piacenza: towards a more just, green and healthy future;
-2022 Rethinking Via Emilia: creative geographies in Piacenza.
The LOL2023 edition is an ambitious program based on the comparison of highly topical aspects, also linked to climate change:
- water, as an element and factor that builds territorial forms and natural ecosystems;
- drought, as an increasingly common phenomenon, which transforms the landscape and produces unprecedented spaces to understand, manage, design in the direction of resilience and sustainability;
- energy, as the integration of places, infrastructures and forms of land use capable of becoming productive landscapes in terms of energy, in the direction of more sustainable, fair and supportive communities.
The Po river becomes, together with the territories it crosses, an exemplary case study, as well as an extraordinary opportunity for the application and experimentation of the most recent water sensitive design strategies. The design work on the water territories will be developed with the support of a series of "stories" with respect to the Po, its history and its topicality which - in a logic of overlapping and disciplinary hybridization - will involve ecology, literature and history.
”.
Workshop kick-off: September 4th, 2023.
