After focusing on the Po riverfront and on the buffer zones among river and city within the 2020-2021 editions, LOL2022 focuses on the western part of the urban system, along the historical direction of Via Emilia. It’s a complex urban and landscape environment where logistic assets (a very large urban sector of about 2K hectares) are strongly intertwined with productive and commercial areas and with mobility infrastructures. This framework is strongly impacted by the natural corridor of Po River (in the northern edge) and the close agricultural and open areas and is characterized by complex social geographies with different communities that are “occupying” the sectors with diverse intensities. The workshop goal try to integrate artificial and polluted environments with new forms of quality, stressing some of the concepts giving identity to International recent documents (from Agenda 2030 to European Green New Deal, from Next Generation EU to The New European Bauhaus): Regeneration; Accessibility; Communities; Naturalization; Forestation; Sustainability; Environment; Porosity; Permeability; Slow mobility; Design for All. Projects will be characterized by research about territorial-scale connections and synergies, as well as by an in-depth examination of local designs, oriented to bring landscape and urban quality within the contexts through the integration of ecology, nature, cultural and social infrastructures among a scenario oriented to trigger a complex process. Workshop kick-off: August 30th, 2022. Final projects presentation: September 10th, 2022.
